Characterization of multi-element diffusion burner for combustion synthesis studies

Silane/hydrogen/oxygen/argon flames were examined using a multielement diffusion burner and water absorption spectroscopy for in Situ temperature determinations. A range of equivalence ratios was studied (Φ= 0.59- 2.26). The results for temperature were compared with flames where no silane was present and with adiabatic equilibrium calculations. The qualitative trends for temperature as a function of Φ were in good agreement with the equilibrium predictions. The measured absolute temperature levels were lower than the equilibrium calculations by ~300-400 K throughout the range of conditions studied.
