There is no miracle method making any tool a great tool. Cryogenic processing is not a miracle cure that will suddenly make a lousy mold work perfectly. It is a metallurgical principle on par with, but not a substitute for heat treating. It will increase the life of many molding components, and it will reduce the total tooling cost substantially. Generally speaking, a two to threefold increase in life of many components can be expected provided those components are designed and manufactured correctly in the first place. The primary reason for considering the use of this or any process is to reduce costs and increase profits. We have found a side benefit to the application of the process in many companies. Because we have looked closely at the metallurgical aspects of the processes used by our customers when determining if cryogenic processing will be viable for them, we have helped them find ways to make better tooling and products because they have come to a better understanding of that metallurgy.
