Train maintenance - the future is arriving - the AEA Technology vision of maintenance for the 21st century

This paper describes 'the AEA Smart Way', using a combination of: 1. on-train and track-side condition monitoring and 2. 'Smart OTMR's' and train management systems. Using on-train or trackside 'intelligence' to automatically review and store to send as a regular download; or to notify of an impending degradation or fault or to send an immediate 'alarm' with all the necessary supporting information to: 1. a maintenance management system optimised for the customer and 2. an operator control office interface. Fully integrated, these can deliver: 1. the right maintenance at 2. the right time with 3. the right materials available and 4. the right information for fault finding.
