A few selected properties, which are pertinent to sealing applications, were determined for ECO vulcanisates based upon typical commercial formulations containing various acid acceptors. These properties were compression-stress-relaxation and compression-set at 23 +- 2°C; and, compression-set at a higher temperature of 120 +- 2°C. The acid acceptors investigated were: zinc oxide, magnesium oxide, calcium oxide, litharge, red lead and a blend of dibasic lead phosphite/dibasic lead phthalate. Generally, the stress-relaxation and set at ambient temperature for the ECO vulcanisates that contained lead-based acid acceptors decreased with increasing V_r. The ECO vulcanisates based upon litharge and red lead showed the best balance of properties.
