We investigate in this paper the distributed scheduling in Wimax mesh networks. Unlike scheduling based on conventional omni-directional antenna that generates interference, we propose an algorithm for coordinated distributed scheduling that improves the system performance by taking into account the efficiency of smart antennas to maximize network throughput by maximizing the number of concurrent transmissions without increasing interference. The implementation is achieved using the three-way handshake mechanism with few modifications. The simulations results in terms of simultaneously active links, i.e. network throughput, show great benefits of the proposed scheme in comparison with the conventional one.
