Benenficiation of Waste Phosphogypsum : A Case Study

The paper deals with the beneficiation trials conducted on waste phosphogypsum in the pilot plant developed by CBRI. The results showed that impurities of P_2O_5, F, organic matter and alkalies in the beneficiated phosphogypsum reduced considerably and conformed to the requirements of IS: 12679-1989. The techno-economics of the beneficiated phosphogypsum is also outlined. The suitability of the beneficiated phosphogypsum was examined for the production of building materials such as plaster boards, blocks and water-resistant binder. The properties of these products are detailed in the paper.
