Corrosion of brass-coated steel wires in saline water: Focus on the brass composition impact studied by EIS under cathodic polarisation

Pearlitic carbon steel wires are used in numerous applications: rails, ropes for bridges, elevators, high-strength wires, concrete structures...The wires can be coated with brass to improve their corrosion resistance while maintaining all usable advantages.[1,2] Brass-coated steels are used in several industrial sectors to produce springs, brushes, hose reinforcement, tyres, electrical cables... The brass coating adds though a great complexity to the corrosion mechanisms.
