Metal finishing rinsewater recycle systems are optimally sized with graph-based flow/hardware sequences and a facility-wide pollution planning process. The detailed analytic process produces a system with minimized capital investment and operating costs. Twelve years combined operations at three facilities provides the experience to successfully predict operating costs. The analytic design process and practical experience provide the information for a thorough economic analysis of a proposed recycle system. The paper focuses on an economical recycle system that has been operating successfully for 2 years in a chem-treat/anodize facility in Everett, WA.
