The continued collection of process control monitoring data is an integral component of the in-situ anaerobic bioremediation remedy, as the treatment process is anticipated to take approximately 5 years (NYSDEC's March 1997 ROD). A key component of the process control monitoring program is the COC monitoring. To date there have been four COC sampling events conducted as part of the process control monitoring program. The COC data and the process control monitoring data have been evaluated to complete the following: 1. Confirm that the anaerobic microbial communities are reducing the mass of COCs present within the shallow hydrogeologic unit of each of the three areas; 2. Verify the concentrations of COCs and mineral media and/or metabolic byproducts have not increased downgradient of each area or within the deep hydrogeologic unit; and 3. Confirm that containment has been established in each of the three areas. Based on the results of the process control monitoring program obtained to date, the site will be reclassified by the NYSDEC from a Class 2 to a Class 4 Inactive Hazardous Waste Disposal site. Class 4 is defined by the NYSDEC as a site that has been properly closed but that requires continued operation, maintenance, or monitoring (Title 6 of the New York Compilation of Codes, Rules, and Regulations, Part 375).
