Ozone is an effective oxidant for the in situ oxidation of PAHs. It results in the complete mineralization of the PAH to carbon dioxide and water. The reaction is not sensitive to ring size. It is equally effective over the entire range of PAHs found in MGP wastes. The reaction appears to be contact driven. The relative rate of reaction is a function of the initial concentration of the individual PAHs. Laboratory and field results will be presented from an MGP site in NJ showing the effectiveness of in situ ozonation. The talk will discuss the design factors and how to monitor the effectiveness of the treatment
