LANDFILL GAS - A GREEN SOURCE TO SUPPLEMENT NATURAL GAS DEMAND

CNG as an automotive fuel is prolific, and is thus, exceedingly popular due to its economic benefits and environmental friendliness. It has already been tried also, as an industrial fuel for boiler feed, furnace feed and as a substitute of Light Diesel Oil (LDO), High Stock Diesel (HSD), Furnace Oil (FO) and other fuel gases like Coke Oven Gas (COG), Blast Furnace Gas (BFG), etc. It has been seen that the CNG driven equipment do not lose on efficiency on any account. They have better exhaust and emissions from such equipment have the least pollutants. Further, to obtain CNG, we have two sources viz. fossil fuel and RES. While the former has a fixed life and stock, the latter may continue for as long as mankind generates waste, which may continue forever. The technology for converting waste to usable CNG is neither complex nor costly. It only needs to be implemented suitably so that the benefits can be magnified and spread over the globe for better quality of life and envionment. Nonetheless, we need to act fast. The advantages can be pictorially portrayed as below in Fig 1.
