THE LIQUID FEED INDUSTRY IN AUSTRALIA NEW ZEALAND

Without wishing to offend New Zealanders, most of my discussion will focus on Australia, which is my backyard and where, after all, most of the action is. Australia is an island continent about the size of the continental United States, the big difference being that it has a population of less than 20 million, the vast majority of whom live in 5 cities (with almost half in Sydney and Melbourne). Although Australians are big meat eaters by world standards, clearly the small population size provides for a limited domestic market. The one positive comparison this provides is that, unlike the United States, we have more cattle than people.
