This paper describes the results of research carried out to establish perceptions of the benefits and problems associated with the implementation of business process re-engineering (B.P.R.). The authors are particularly interested in B.P.R. in the product design process that is generally regarded to be complicated because of its iterative and conditional nature. The research shows that the product design process is perceived to be more difficult to re-engineer than any other business process. The main reason why more problems are met in the design process is the increased need for cultural change.
