The Multi-Role Endurance Unmanned Air Vehicle Risk Assessment program was initiated by the Program Executive Office for Cruise Missile and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (PEO(CU)) in response to the Secretary of Defense's memorandum concerning the increased importance and use of unmanned aerial vehicles in the 21st Century. The MRE program is a direct response to this guidance to fight the battles of tomorrow with systems that provide increased flexibility at a lower cost and lower risk to American lives. It is the Navy's most recent effort to meet the future needs of Sailors and Marines as described in the Navy and Marine Corps' strategic planning documents. Further, it follows the Naval UAV Executive Steering Group (ESG) Long Range Plan for UAV development and introduction.
