The Heavy Metal Pollution Index model used here, has been proved to be a very useful tool in evaluating the over all pollution level of surface and spring water in terms of heavy metals. The HPI calculated for surface and spring water of Sirmour district's limestone-mining area has been found to be below the Index limit of 100. This shows that the surface and spring water are not polluted with respect to heavy metals inspite of the prolific growth of mining and other allied activities in the zone.
