Urban ecology, a comprehensive approach of the environmental issues related to transportation: The RATP case, Paris

RATP has been more and more involved as an urban actor, far beyond its role as a transporter. Urban ecology is a strategic aim for RATP, as public transport will constitute a major asset in the sustainable development of the cities of the future. RATP's comprehensive urban ecology policy revolves around four main themes: more ecological mobility, improved public transport, citizenship and an exemplary environmental record. RATP is committed to setting up a management system that takes into account the environmental considerations of projects, along with the performance of lines and industrial sites. The ecological reflex must be there in everything our staff do and in every decision the company makes. Finally, this is a long-term approach that will bring to the fore certain economic and fiscal issues involved in the choice of transport policies and the way operators manage networks.
