The term Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is a well-known buzzword in the area of logistics and supply chain management, because EDI enables the automation of the interactions between companies and their partners. But especially for automobile industry the suppliers are often small and medium enterprises (SME). For such a SME the actual costs for a realization of traditional EDI by using the existing standards (EDIFACT, VDA) are too high. Therefore there is the search for flexible and low-cost opportunities for EDI.
