Ten years ago, almost exactly, the UK electricity industry moved from public ownership and into private hands. The change brought market cultures to an industry that had grown to maturity in the ownership of the State. Here, the author describes how, in the period since that major transition the industry has undergone more major changes-substantial restructuring, the progressive introduction of supply competition and significant new entry into the generation market-driven by the needs of competition.
