A Simulation-Based Approach To Evalauting Coalbed Methane Reservoir Producibility and Operatign Practices Case Studies in Coalbed Methane Reservoir Simulation
Coal seam gas reservoirs are complex both geologically and in the mechanism of gas production. Unlike conventional gas reservoirs, the raditional methods of analogy, decline curve analysis and material balance are not adequate to describe two-phase (gas-water) flow conditions in naturally fractured coal reservoirs. Reservoir simualtion, however, provides a consistent and reliable way to account for the mechanisms of coal seam gas desorption and diffusion. The reservoir simulator also provides the means by which field and laboratory data can be integrated into a single geologic/reservoir model in order to cost effectively evalaute exploration protocols and long-term development strategies.
