Abstract: The environment of the gas turbine engine is one of the harshest environments that require sensors for control and monitoring. The combination of extreme temperatures and vibration levels poses a difficult problem for even the most robust electrical sensor. Optical sensors are becoming an attractive alternative to electrical sensors for this application because of their higher temperature operation and remote sensing capability. In this paper, we present an overview of some of the senor being developed and/or offered by BF Goodrich for turbine engine applications. The issues involved in designing a sensor for this environment and some of the packaging issues will also be discussed. !6
