'Green Solvents: Effective and Environmentally Friendly'

At this time, there are constant calls to act responsibly to minimize effects on the environment. There is little information on solvents appropriate for use in the cleaning industry. Simply stated, it is the aim of this course to define the term "Green Solvents" and to provide an invaluable perspective on which solvents are currently applicable in the cleaning industry. Highlights will include defining characteristics of Green Solvents, their current usage and their importance (ecologically and economically.) The discussions on the description of green solvents will include information contained in the new Green Seal Degreaser Standard. This standard will be publicized in early 1999 and will establish standard criteria to determine an environmentally acceptable cleaner/degreaser. We will discuss solvents in specific commercial and noncommercial practices.
