The active sonar systems are faced with the difficult task of detecting moving targets in strong reverberation environments. Since the effective cancelling of the reverberation cannot be accomplished with a fixed notch filter, a filter structureto recover target signals obscured by the reverberation is proposed. The proposed scheme consists of an adaptive filter and a fixed filter. The optimum and suboptimum solutions are also considered. Experiments for an active sonar system are performed toexamine the potential of the proposed structure for target signal enhancement problem.
