Supercontinuum generation in fiber is currently attracting interest as a way to generate multi-wavelength picosecond pulses for high-speed WDM transmission systems. Many groups have demonstrated the generation of large optical bandwidths by nonlinear propagation of short pulses in fibers [1, 2, 3], however few system demonstrations with spectrum-sliced supercontinuum sources have so far been reported [4]. In this paper we report the error-free transmission of 40 channels at 9.953 Gb/s over 544 km of standard fiber from such a transmitter. To our knowledge, this is the first time spectrum-sliced supercontinuum is used for multi-span transmission.
