4-node optical networking with 0.4 bits/s/Hz spectral efficiency and a total capacity of 1.6 Tb/s has been demonstrated by using a versatile IWAD. The performance of the cascaded IWADs in this experiment indicates its potential use in high capacity optical network systems. The featureless transmission spectrum, unique to this device, permits cascadability at high data rates with very tolerant behavior to signal misalignment.
