Modified honey bees mating algorithm for optimal weekly operation of a pumped storage plant

In this paper, a version of the Honey Bees Mating Optimization (HBMO) algorithm is used in connection with the weekly optimal operation of a hydro-system including three reservoirs, two hydropower plants (HPPs) and a pumped storage plant (PSP), as the proposed project Fa?nta?nele-Tarnit?a-La?pus?tes?ti. Using the same mathematical model and input data, the results obtained by HBMO in 10 runs are compared with the ones produced by a genetic algorithm (GA) - based model in 30 runs and statistically analyzed in a previous paper. The maximum weekly net income from produced/consumed energies was selected as objective function. Any gain from ancillary services is not considered. At the closing market prices from 2014, the HBMO version seems to be substantially better than the GA model.
