Carbon fiber reinforced vinyl ester and polyester matrix composites have notably poor fiber-matrix interface properties. In this work, interphase regions have been designed for carbon fiber reinforced vinyl ester matrix composites with a series of tough, ductile, thermoplastic sizings having systematically varied chemical polarities. These materials interdiffuse with the vinyl ester matrix during cure to achieve good sizing-matrix adhesion. The relative amounts of interdiffusion between the sizings and matrix have been studied using AFM and qualitatively correlated to composite fatigue properties. With as little as 0.7
