The Fiber Glass Reinforced (FRP) industry, main consumer and emitter of styrene, has been growing rapidly to meet the industrial and consumer demands it has helped grow. In 1970, styrene production exceeded 5 billion lbs. annually, whereas in 1989 this production increased to 8.9 billion lbs and has been growing eversince. This growth has led to increased styrene emissions to the atmosphere.
