The effect of pre and/or intermediate oxidation (ozone, chlorien, and potassium permanganate) on filtered water turbidity and particle counts was investigated. The results are quitedramatic. The stronger oxidants-ozone and chlorine-were found to significantly reduce filtered water particle counts by as much as an order of magnitude compared to the "no oxidant" case when applied prior to filtration. The use of potassium permanganate did not significantly effect filtration performance at the dosages used in this research.
