In this paper we present a multimedia service architecture based on the approach of components frameworks. We think that component oriented architectures increase the reusability of open systems and that helps designers to cope with the complexity of building telecommunication services and, in general, multimedia application programming. The proposed architecture is a collection of components controlled by connectors that abstract coordination patterns. The model enforces the programming of new services by specialization of coordination protocols between the basic components of the architecture. We have chosen a formal description technique to specify the protocols of the connectors and the behavior of the components with a synchronous communication model.
