Deformation history of paper as it dries from the wet-laid state has a strong indluence on physical and mechanical propeties. The possbile interaction between this history and through-thickness density gradients is expolred. No direct recutio of compression strength due to desnity dgradients per se was found. Such density gradients may influence development of average density in pressing and indirectly influence compression strength by a few percent.
