Acceptable risk can not be determined by the analysts alone.The level of acceptable risk will differ from community to community and from individual to individual.The input of the local community,particularly the local regulatory community,prior to performing the analysis may be critical in the ultimate acceptance of the level of risk.By discussing the process with the local community at the beginning and throughout the analysis you can describe what it is you are an understanding of the concerns of the local community which may assist you in focusing your analysis.Although it is unlikely that a quantifiablelevel of acceptable risk will be established in the discussions,an understanding of the concerns of community by the analysts can be critical in ultimate acceptance of the results by the local community.During discussions with the local community it is critical that good risk communication techniques be utilized to insure that the analyst perspective is approproiately conveyed to the community.
