Numerical Analysis of a Moving Bed Reactor for Iron Scrap Melting

A mathematical model of the moving bed scrapmelting furnace has been developed by incorporatingfollowing fundamental works. For the rate of majorreactions; iron oxide reduction, coke gasification andthermal decomposition of binder were observed by usinga single briquette, and carburization rate of solid ironfrom gas phase was measured by using thermo-gravimetrical analysis and EPMA analysis. Wetted areain a trickle bed was also evaluated for low wettableliquid flow in low Reynolds number region. Thesimulation results of the scrap melting furnace revealedthree-phase flow phenomena with melting anddemonstrated the enhancing effect of the newly-developed briquette on reduction due to coke breeze gasification.
