Importance of slag characteristics in the smelting reduction processes

This paper examines the importance of slag properties during smelting reduction processes and examines interrelationship between and reaction kinetics on the basis of slag properties and some dimensionless numbers such as Reynolds number and Morton number. It is shown that there is a relationship between these numbers as well as that between reaction rate constant and foaming index. The paper reexamines some equations available in the literature and proposes some new relationships for adequate description and understanding of some aspects of smelting reduction reaction.
