Predictivefracture of test cases with flaws using the finite element method

The growth of cracks invariably leads to the destruction of property and more importantly poses a safety hazard. It is desirable to simulate the growht of long cracks and determine the number of cycles to failure. A typical long crack is longer than 10 mm (0.4 in) in size. This study provides test cases of 1) a plate with doubleedge notches, 2) a three-point bend specimen, 3) a plate with a hole and notches, and 4) a plate with a pattern of holes and notches.
