Radial variation of basic density and fibre length were used as the criteria for the determination of the extent of juvenile wood in stems of 16-year-old Eucalyptus tereticornis. Four different mathematical models were tested firstly to find out which one has the highest correlation coefficient and the best fit and secondly to define the borders between juvenile wood and transition wood and between transition wood and mature wood. Linear and second degree polynomial models have the highest correlation coefficient and the best fit. The proportion of juvenile wood increase with increasing height in the stem. The mathematical definition of the borders between juvenile wood and transition wood and between transition wood and mature wood will easify comparison of result on similar studies. All the studies stems at the age of 16 years could practically be considered all to be composed of juvenile wood because they have very low proportion of mature wood.
