In this paper,the(2,1,m)convolutional codes and their encoding block diagram,configuration principle of trellis diagram,decoding approach and typical characteristic curves are presented.The algorithm for viterbi Maximum LikeLihood Decoding in BSC and DMC is described.The decoding process and result of Hard Decision and Soft Decision are introduced with non systematic code(2,1,2)as an illustration.Fields for further study are also discussed.
