摘要

Digital cellular radio is not only being used for the implementation of mobile networks but it is also proving to be an ideal solution for economically providing communications service instead of copper based fixed networks.This is called radio in the loop (RITL)and is the first step to providing ubiquitous pcrsonal communications networks.The GSM system with its base of digital switching,digital signalling and digital radio technologies and its comprehensively standardised set of network wide speech and data services(e.g.FAX and half rate speech)forms an excellent platform for personal communications.The introduction of Intelligent Network functionality into GSM based networks will facilitate the provision of new services.GSM and fixed network functionalities will also grow together and may even be merged using the Combined Switch where fixed wired,mobile radio and fixed radio network func tionalities are integrated within one digital switch hardware.
