'New' audiences: The role of technological innovation in audience definition

It is argued that the traditional demographic approach to audience analysis is too narrow. It is suggested that, under conditions of rapid technological change, technical writers must expand their analytical horizon to include the underlying assumptions and contingent factors which shape both technological innovation and audiences.
