Interfering signals in radio communication systems can assume a variety of forms. To excise interference, the use of models that are simple and general enough to cover its many forms, yet offer low detector implementation complexity and excellent performance are prefered. One such generic model is partial-band interference, which covers narrowband through to co-channel interference conditions. Two models are examined, Gaussian partial-band and sinusoidal partial-band interference in the presence of AWGN. The performance of various forms of optimum detector based on these models is examined and compared with conventional ad-hoc interference rejection techniques through simulation. In moderate to heavily-interfered channels, the model-based detection schemes can out-perform conventional techniques with minimal additional processing requirements. Furthermore, the simulation comparison studies give valuable insight into the relative merits and design weaknesses of both the proposed and ad-hoc detector structures.
