1.3 m C-Band Telephony Subscriber Terminal for Remote and Rural Applications

The Communications Research Centre(CRC) of the Federal Department of Communications has contracted Skywave Electronics Ltd. to develop a 1.8m C-Band highly transportable telephony terminal for subscriber quality remote and rural telecommunications applications using domestic communications satellites. Applications of these terminals differ from those best served by Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSATs) by offering low startup cots and by servicing primarily voice traffic. With fold-up antennas and compact reliable RF electronics, the 1.8m subscriber terminals could be made highly transportable to meet the needs of emergency and short term communications at short notices.
