An ideal smelting reduction process is characterized by the oxide to 100 percent being reduced in the molten state in one step and in one reactor. Early developments started with this principle, but due to difficulties with heat transfer and lining attack, other ways have been tried. The advantages in raw materials, process speed, control and accuracy are, however, so obvious that we believe the future belongs to bath smelting.
