The rotor crack grows gradually, and finally may fail causing a catastrophic accident. Therefore, the occurrence of the crack should be detected in its early stage. Many researches have been reported on the vibration analysis and detection of the rotor crack utilizing finite element method (FEM). Generally, the simple crack model using 1D-FEM explained and clarified the qualitative vibration characteristic of the cracked shaft, but it was difficult to use for the quantitative analysis. This paper focuses the development of the concise and accurate crack model in 1D-FEM rotor model. Especially, the parameters contained in this crack model are noted, and its characteristics are investigated. Both the theoretical and the experimental analyses are performed for the shaft with various kinds of radius, and the validity of the crack model is discussed.
