Due to the constant demand for improving the efficiency of machines and vehicles, numerous research projects have focused on increasing the rating life of rolling bearings. In addition to successfully implemented approaches, such as improved heat treatment processes, optimized rolling bearing materials or improved surfaces and lubrication methods, there are further options for increasing performance. It is a well-known fact that residual compressive stresses in material subjected to rolling contact stresses in rolling bearings have a positive influence on the rating life of rolling bearings [1]. There are also theoretical approaches for explaining the effects of these residual compressive stresses in the rolling contact. The stress condition is determined on the basis of equivalent stress hypotheses and evaluated using rating life models [2]. This article presents the test results and simulations for residual compressive stresses introduced into the component surface layer and their impact on the rating life.
