The nearshore and transition zone subsurface environments can be challenging to image seismically. High-resolution 3D (HR3D) multi-channel reflection seismic occupies a unique niche among subsurface imaging techniques, spanning very shallow (10s of m deep) investigation systems (i.e., CHIRP) and deeper (up to km) conventional 2D/3D seismic systems, and can operate in shallow water. This paper summarizes HR3D experience developed during three surveys in the Gulf of Mexico (2012-2014). Highlights include erosional surfaces related to Quaternary/Holocene relative sea-level change, shallow fault detection, and identification of gas migration chimney and shallow re-accumulation.
