1. Dilute sulphuric acid used in hydrometallurgical processes, i.e. containing oxidizing metal ions, is not corrosive to conventional stainless steels. 2. The level of chloride ions and temperature govern the corrosivity independent of metal recovered. 3. An appropriate duplex stainless steel can in most situations substitute a more costly austenitic grade. 4. The use of a duplex grade implies cost savings because of lower cost per weight and reduced gauge due to higher mechanical strength. 5. There is service experience from a number installations of duplex stainless steel within the hydrometallurgical industry.
