A Smart System to Detect Volatile Organic Compounds Produced by Hydrocarbons on Seawater

The detection of hydrocarbons is a key issue for environmental monitoring and marine pollution monitoring in particular [1, 2]. Although this analysis is not often easy and can carry on many problems, it is extremely important to address efforts towards the realization of a smart system for this purpose, aiming to find possible presence of oil spills and/or hydrocarbons leakage on the sea surface. To the best of our knowledge, few system were realized with good performances, low cost, high portability, and capability of detection and discrimination between different compounds, and to overtake this problem, a smart solution is proposed in this work.
