Wind farm design methodology and simulation software are initiated from European wind situation that need to reassess and optimize to adapt the requirement of Chinese large wind power bases,in particular conditions of terrain and climate.The study sample of this paper is a large wind farm located at Northwest Chinese Gobi desert,and the study is based on analysis and research of service data of its 200 WTGs,wind measurement data,on-site measured LIDAR data.This paper presents a comparison between the observed wake effects at wind farm and the wake effects modeled using different wind assessment software with different wake models.The performance and suitability of wind software and wake models are discussed and the improvement suggestion for wake models and new method of wind farm design are presented at last.
