The group at University of Illinois has developed the first generation MRI compatible SPECT (MRC-SPECT-I) using 40 highly pixelated CdTe detectors. In the paper, we examined strong magnetic distortion over detector charge collection, system response, and the corresponding correction model. The system capability of working in simultaneous SPECT/MRI imaging was also demonstrated using point source and resolution phantom studies. Our results showed MRC-SPECT-I could obtain sub-500μm resolution.
