The demand for accurate satellite precipitation products (SPPs) is increasing for hydrological modelling as many regions are lack of reliable rain gauges observation. This study aims to evaluate the performance of five SPPs (3B42RT, 3B42V7, GPCP-1DD, PERSIANN-CDR and CMORPH) and a ground precipitation product (APHRODITE) as daily rainfall input into the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) to simulate streamflow during 2003 to 2007. The selected study area is the Kelantan River Basin (KRB) that located in northern Peninsular Malaysia. The SWAT model simulated historical monthly streamflow well, with a Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient (NSE) for calibration and validation period of 0.79 and 0.67, respectively. Compared to observed rain gauge data, 3B42V7 and APHRODITE yield a more accurate monthly precipitation estimation compared to other precipitation products. 3B42RT and 3B42V7 overestimated observed rainfall, whereas other products showed underestimations. For SWAT-simulated streamflow, 3B42V7 performs the best among SPPs, with higher NSE value of 0.3. Most of the precipitation products suffer from a large overestimation of SWAT-simulated streamflow, whereas only APHRODITE slightly underestimated. These findings provide a good understanding of the uncertainties of various SPPs on SWAT-simulated streamflow.
