Deslorelin Acetate Long-term Suppression of OvarianCarcinoma in a Cockatiel (Nymphicus hollandicus)

Deslorelin acetate (Superlorin~R), a slow-release luteinizing hormone-releasmg hormone (LH-RH) analog, was approved in Australia in 2004 as a biocompatible subcutaneous implant for fertility suppression in male dogs and approved in Europe in 2008, buthas not yet been approved for sale in the United States. There have been published reports on the use of this drug in several animal species. A 2007 report subjectively described variable suppression of oviposition in several psittacine species. In thisreport, deslorelin acetate was used successfully to suppress ovarian carcinoma in a cockatiel (Nymphicus hollandicus).
